What is LearnENT?
Developed by medical students, residents & faculty from across Canada, LearnENT is a collaborative effort that aims to provide a standardized approach to education in Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery.
How It Works
Guided by respected pedagogical theories, LearnENT uses interactive modules to teach the fundamentals of OTOHNS. Topics include the physical exam, relevant anatomy, interesting cases, and more.
LearnENT is an extremely useful resource to quickly reference and learn about the basics of otolaryngology. The app includes various methods of presenting similar information making it a great way for different types of learners to benefit from the app.Jay Agarwal
Who we are
Initially developed by a small group at the University of Ottawa, LearnENT has grown to become a collaborative effort consisting of contributions from medical students, residents and faculty from across Canada.
LearnENT is a national collaboration, with content contributions from:
LearnENT is the official educational application of the Canadian Society of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, and its development would not have been possible with the effort and financial support of the CSOHNS as well as the Canadian Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery Fund.
What We Stand For
Undergraduate medical education in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery (OTOHNS) is highly variable across Canadian medical schools. LearnENT aims to help provide a standardized OTOHNS exposure and to emphasize key objectives to medical students and junior residents across the country.
Proven Pedagogical Principles
LearnENT’s development was firmly grounded in pedagogical theory including the Constructivist Theory of Learning, Laurillard’s design process, Honey and Mumford’s learning styles, and Nielsen’s theory of usability. LearnENT makes use of several different teaching modalities including formal didactic written sections, instructional videos, engaging interactive activities and more. Each of these interactive sections provide opportunities for practice, goal-oriented learning, feedback and guidance.
To improve accessibility to learners across the globe, we chose to make LearnENT freely available on the iOS App Store, as well as online (for those users who do not own an Apple mobile device). LearnENT.ca is built entirely on open web standards and is accessible from a wide range of devices and browsers.
